Hi I’m the new boy I joined Cover Up Band in October 2009. My love for the guitar started in the late sixties when an old acoustic model found its way into the family home. I was instantly hooked on the sound and look of it and have had an endless love affair with anything to do with guitars since. I’m self taught and have a vast experience of playing in numerous different types of bands and musical projects over many years covering blues, smooth jazz, funk, pop, rock, soul and acoustic styles. I instantly felt at home when I joined the band and thrive on the very eclectic mix of material the band performs. As well as handling guitar duties I’m very much at home contributing to the strong vocal harmony. Typical of many working guitarists I have numerous guitars and gizmos to suit many different musical situations but for Cover Up’s live stage shows my main weapon of choice is a Custom Shop Fender Stratocaster 56’ Reissue, closely followed by a rather tasty Gibson ES335 and a Martin 000C for the Cover Up acoustic set. My main guitar amp is a very sweet little US hand built ‘Dr Z’ valve job plus a strange mix of effects units that you can often catch me tap dancing on during most shows.
My main musical influences include Mr Clapton, George Harrison, Neil Finn (Crowded House), Larry Carlton, Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Howe, Martin Taylor, and anyone who ever made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I heard them play something special.
Catch you soon at the next Cover Up gig….
